Necrology

Loving husband to Camille (b. March 25, 1939 – d. December 27, 1992) for 25 years. Devoted father to Cathy, Jamie (Maud) and doting grandpa to Meagan and Mackensey. Cherished companion to Regina for 11 years. Sadly missed by her daughters Regina (Lenny) and Karen. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Ina and James (Jimmy) Vaughn Speirs. He was raised in a loving home, his parents instilled in him the wholesome values he would carry throughout his life. Jim attended the University of Manitoba and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work at CN Rail in a variety of leadership roles. He was well-respected in his field and retired after 34 years. He then worked at the Railway Association of Canada for 4 years as Vice President. He had many interests and hobbies. Jim was a talented, self-taught guitarist and banjo player; he would often entertain family and friends and accompany himself with his melodic singing voice. He was an avid gardener, golfer and home-made winemaker. Jim will be remembered for his generous hospitality, his love of travel and adventure, his friendliness, his wit, his humour and sense of community. The visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm followed by a service at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 3 at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 5610 Sherbrooke Street West, Montréal, Québec. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to either McGill University Health Centre Foundation (please designate to Cardiology) or to Moisson Montreal (food bank) in his memory.
